- Ignore the previous posts. Those people are commenting on a subject they
- obviously know nothing about.
-
- You have a few solutions. Which one depends on exactly what you want to
- do. Do you need to share the modems so that anone can call a BBS, etc.
- (obviously one at a time) or do you want to give everyone access to the
- internet?
-
- If you want to simply share the modem, look into SAPS (SpartaCom) or
- WinPort (LanSource.) These let you share modem(s) on an NT box and connect
- to them using a Windows client. I don't know if there is a Win95 client
- (for SAPS) available yet, but there are a Windows and WinNT clients and
- the Win95 client for WinPort was in Beta last time I checked (couple
- months ago).
-
- When sharing modems using these packages, the developers were smarter
- than the guy who responded to your post telling you that a second call
- would disrupt the first. Duh. If someone tries to use the shared modem
- that is currently in use, they will be told so, and their request for the
- modem can be queued by the modem server if desired. Let me know if you
- need more info about this stuff.
-
- If you simply need to give everyone access to the internet, consider
- WinGate. You can have one machine connected to the net through RAS
- everyone else using the net through WinGate. It is simple to use. You
- need to make sure your internet apps support proxies though for easiest
- use. Again, let me know if you need more help.
